Project team members generally include some contingency in their estimates, so it’s a good idea to ask them whether contingency is part of their durations. On occasion, you may choose to have contingency built into a few deliverables (due to risk), but be careful not to create duplicate contingency time in individual items and in the contingency reserve .

3. Review the critical path and any critical deliverables, using expert judgment to determine the appropriate amount of contingency .

• If you do not possess the necessary expert judgment yourself, be sure to get help from others who have it, and ask them to review the schedule. Sources of expert judgment include other project managers, subject matter experts, industry standards, sponsors, subproject leaders, vendors or suppliers, and industry or professional organizations.
